Join Bastyr University graduates, Certified Nutritionist Angela Pifer and Registered Dietitian Selva Wohlgemuth, along with a special guest appearance by Australian Cookbook author Rebecca Coomes - collectively known as the GutRx Gurus, as they teach you how to address chronic IBS symptoms with a FODMAP Elimination Diet.

FODMAPs is an acronym that stands for Fermentable, Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. FODMAPs are short chain carbohydrates found in some foods and are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. When these collect in the small intestine, they draw water into the intestine via osmosis. This osmotic effect triggers IBS symptoms, like cramping, distention and urgent loose stool. FODMAPs can also be fermented by gut bacteria in the intestines as fuel, leading to gas production. This is a normal process that even provides us with health benefits. However, if too many FODMAPs are not absorbed, too much fermentation can occur in the small intestine, causing severe distention, pain, and discomfort.

Angela Pifer is one of the nation’s foremost functional medicine nutrition and health experts, an accomplished speaker and media personality. She has spent over 25 years in the health and fitness industry, including the past 12 years as a functional medicine nutritionist focusing in the areas of functional gut disorders, inflammation and metabolic conditions - this has earned Angela recognition as the go-to gut health expert. Angela is fondly known as the "SIBO Guru" ( and has focusedfor the past five years on SIBO (small intestine bowel overgrowth).

Angela graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Psychology and Bastyr University with a Master’s degree in Nutrition Science. Angela is the creator of the Clean & Lean System - the first functional medicine program created that helps people create healthy habits with how they eat, think, sleep and move. She founded GutRx Gurus - in 2016, a recipe site devoted to teaching people how easy, nutritionally sound and tasty, low FODMAP eating can be.  In 2017, she helped launch GutRx Bone Broths, the first commercially available low FODMAP bone broths - USDA Certified, Organic and Delicious.

Selva Wohlgemuth, MS, RDN is the owner of Happy Belly Nutrition - - a private practice located in the heart of Bellingham, WA. With a graduate degree from Bastyr University, Selva is able to help clients work towards their unique health goals integrating functional and holistic nutrition therapy. Selva helped found GutRx Gurus, a low FODMAP recipe site dedicated to making low FODMAP eating easy, nutritionally sound and absolutely delicious. She is also a practicing Clinical Dietitian at Peace Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Cancer Center. A skilled cook, writer, and photographer, Selva shares evidence based nutrition information via her food blog and has written articles for, Chickpea Magazine, and Food & Nutrition Stone Soup, and currently writes the monthly "Ask The Nutritionist" column for the Bellingham Food Co-op Newsletter. 

Rebecca Coomes is an author, entrepreneur, passionate foodie and intrepid  traveler. She transformed her health after a  lifetime of chronic illness, and today guides others on their own path to wellness. She is the founder of The Healthy Gut (, a platform where people can learn about gut health and how it is important for a healthy mind and body. She coaches SIBO patients on how to live well with SIBO through her SIBO Coaching Program. Rebecca is the author of the world's first cookbooks for people treating Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), and is the host of The Healthy Gut podcast and SIBO Cooking Show.
